What Makes You Beautiful

by Amanda on May 7, 2013

It’s okay, I PROMISE I’m not pulling a One Direction reference on you. Cross my heart!

I know, I KNOW. I said this would be a race recap and it’s not. It’s okay, I’m still thinking about the race constantly. Especially when I try to sit down and my quads just aren’t having it. I won’t forget my feelings anytime soon, and I will get that race recap up.

I will. You like that transition?

I Will

You may have seen this campaign floating around the universe before, but now we have Under Armour’s What’s Beautiful 3.0. Basically, you set a kickass goal and then you work your butt off to get there. It’s an awesome campaign that showcases how BEAUTIFUL being a female athlete can be. And I can get behind that 100%.So can FitFluential! A couple of my fellow ambassadors are kicking…butts? And taking names with this campaign, and I totally want to participate.

The prize doesn’t exactly make it more difficult to sign up.

Costa RicaThank you, Pinterest, for feeding my addiction.

THREE winners will get sent to Costa Rica for a surf and yoga retreat. You may or may not know I’ve recently become overly obsessed with getting my butt to Costa Rica. For a surf and yoga retreat? I’m swooning already. And picking out some bathing suits. Basically, I’m going to find my way there one way or another. And this is just one way.

The hardest part for me is trying to pick some awesome goals. I like running. I like dancing. I like being strong. I like EVERYTHING. At least once. It just keeps coming back to the fact that I love adventure. That’ll never change. So I guess it’s a good thing 2013 is #adventureyear.

IWILL

What does that entail? Giving it my all in all different aspects of fitness. Preparing for a tri. Preparing for a marathon. Keeping my dancer flexibility. Yoga-ing to calm my brain. Doing it for me and not making exercise a “have to” or a need.

I do it for me, and I think that’s beautiful.

So come check me out! Can we be friends on there? Is that a thing? If so, be my friend! Because I think you’re pretty dang beautiful too. Just click here!

Have you hopped onto this campaign? What’s your goal?

Where are you obsessed with going? Clearly, I’m really digging Costa Rica. But I’ve got a long, long list that is for sure!

Broad Street: Then and Now

by Amanda on May 6, 2013

I’m never very good at race recaps. My half marathon came and went without any big mention of it on the blog. Was it because I hated my knee SO MUCH in the following weeks? Maybe. That’s a very big possibility. But a recap, I think would be nice to have. To look back on and whatnot. I did exactly that from my first run down Broad Street last year.

So yes, I’ll be doing a race recap. But not today. Today I want to focus on some things that were very different from last year.

Broad Street Run 2013We finished again, that’s for sure!

1. My attitude.

Let me paint a picture. Last year I was freaking out and couldn’t fall asleep because Paul was watching SNL and DOESN’T HE KNOW you’re supposed to get a good night sleep beforehand and OH MY GOD we have GOT to be on the subway by 6:30am no later HOLY @$#* I AM FREAKING OUT. I AM IN A CORRAL AND CAN I DO THIS?! I CAN’T DO THIS.

Not at ALL the case this year. I worked on Saturday night, hung out a little, and just made my way up to bed to read until whenever sleep took me. And then I got ready in the morning and strolled over to the subway, not jumping on the first train that came but instead looking for one that wouldn’t look QUITE so uncomfortable to fit in. And then I laughed a lot at the start and we were off!

2. My family.

Last year, I knew I had my family to look forward to (twice!) throughout the race. This year I was told my dog had a seizure the night before so they wouldn’t be able to make it. After the race, I found out it was actually that my dad went to the hospital that morning (he’s okay!). I’m sad they didn’t get to see me, but so happy that he’s okay. And much as I was upset they didn’t tell me before the race, I’m glad they thought of me enough to hold off.

3. My day.

Last year, I slept all day. This year, I went into work right after I was finished running. Whether this stressed me out less about the race, I’m not sure. But it was nice to have to keep moving my legs at least a little bit. And helping people buy running shoes is a lot more enthusiastic after you’ve just raced.

4. My running buddy.

I still ran with Paul and I would say we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Except for around mile 8 when I had to tie my shoe and he was struggling. Naturally he blamed my shoelace for making the race suck. :)

Last year, I feel like we played it safe. We were running buddies enjoying the ride. This year, it was a bit different. We both pushed each other when we needed it and didn’t take it easy on each other at all. And that’s the way racing partners should be. EVOLUTION.

5. My PR.

Now, I know a bunch of you are all speedy little sons of guns that would laugh at my time and think I was racing a turtle. But I’m proud, dangit. There was about .1 mile of weaving on my Garmin, but I’m too lazy to figure out how to take that into account. I went sub-9 minute miles for all but one mile, I believe. And that’s good for me. GOOD IN GENERAL, SO THERE.

Last year–> 1:46:00

This year –> 1:28:56

That’s an 18 minute PR. Yes, it was from my first race to not my first. But I haven’t had a successful long race in between. So dang. Be impressed. ;)

Broad Street Run 2013Ta-da!

Did you run any races this weekend? Tell me how they went!

How do you like my outfit? I was only missing yellow to be a complete rainbow. :)

HAPPY MAY! Don’t worry, my friends! I haven’t disappeared from the world completely! I live very much by the mindset of having a substantial post or not posting at all. But life’s flying by faster and faster, so maybe not lengthy posts are what needs to happen. Regardless, I’m here to tell you what I’m [...]

iPad Apps Directly Related to Personality

April 24, 2013

Spring Fling: a day where underage college students at Temple University get absolutely wasted and walk around campus playing games, winning hermit crabs, and drinking some more. Not exactly how I partook in the festivities. But Spring Fling can also be defined as the day I won an iPad mini! Flinging with some dance team [...]

Biking in Philadelphia: A Script

April 23, 2013

Hello my wonderful friends. I’ve got nothing too exciting going on today, I’ll be perfectly honest with you. Except for the fact that all of my Disney tickets and reservations are officially done. But if I mention that, I’ll become one-track-minded. And I wouldn’t want to do that to you! But I WILL be blogging [...]

Earth Day Musings

April 22, 2013

So I have some options for writing today’s post, the way I see it. 1) Complain about the weather. And ask myself for the millionth time why I’m STILL in Pennsylvania and didn’t move somewhere warm when I had the chance. So close, but yet so far. 2) Apologize for not posting Tuesday-Friday last week. [...]
